MIAMI GARDENS — The night ended with one final, felonious failure. Of course it did. The whole night had been full of mistakes and miscommunication with an occasional cameo of the No. 2-ranked team in the country – usually, when the ball was in Malachi Toney’s hands – Friday night at Hard Rock Stadium.

It started right at the start for Miami when Louisville finished off a 75-yard drive with a fake field goal for a touchdown, and ended right at frustrating end when Carson Beck dropped back to pass in the final minute. A bad Friday night seemed ready to turn good with Miami in field-goal range to at least tie the game, or win outright with a touchdown and complete a fourth-quarter comeback, as Beck threw short into the flat.

A simple pass. A safe pass.
