STONINGTON-- A former state lawmaker has resigned as political director for Graham Platner's U.S. Senate campaign. Genevieve McDonald of Stonington said on Facebook she made the difficult decision Friday after reading social media posts made by Platner several years ago. Those posts were critical of black people and those who live in rural areas, implying they were racist and stupid. He also said he was communist. Platner has since apologized for the comments and said he made them while in a dark place after returning from Afghanistan. He also says he has grown and no longer feels that way.
