KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — East Tennesseans are well represented in the Country Music Hall of Fame. On Sunday, they'll have yet another claim to fame when Kenny Chesney gets his due in the Country Music Association's hall of honor.
Chesney is among the newest members named to the Hall of Fame in downtown Nashville. The Corryton and Knoxville-area native will be formally inducted along with June Carter Cash and Tony Brown.
This year's class will be inducted in a Medallion Ceremony on Sunday, Oct. 19.
Other artists with East Tennessee ties who have gone into the Hall of Fame are Dolly Parton, Roy Acuff, Chet Atkins, the Everly Brothers and Tennessee Ernie Ford.
Chesney, a graduate of Gibbs High School, said it was an "honor that defies words" to get in.
