Washington: Issuing a stern warning to Hamas over a “planned attack” on Palestinian civilians in Gaza, the United States on Saturday said such an act would be a “direct and grave violation” of the existing ceasefire agreement with Israel, which marks the end of the two-year war since the October 7 attacks.

The US Department of State claimed in a statement that it had received reliable intelligence indicating that Hamas was planning to break the truce by launching an attack on its own people.

“The United States has informed the guarantor nations of the Gaza peace agreement of credible reports indicating an imminent ceasefire violation by Hamas against the people of Gaza,” the statement read.
