There was never a question as to which team was favored as Hoggard football hosted Wilmington rival Laney on Friday, Oct. 17.
The Vikings (8-0, 4-0 CCC) extended their win streak over their Wilmington rivals to 16 straight games, holding off the Bucs 28-14 inside Scott Braswell Stadium.
The win gives Hoggard a 24-1 record over Laney since 2001, but building to that mark wasn't easy. The Vikings traded punts before allowing a 43-yard touchdown strike on fourth down to fall into an early 7-0 deficit.
The big pass play wasn't dissimilar to Hoggard's Week 8 struggles against Topsail. The Pirates, despite entering the game winless, jumped to a 12-0 lead before the Vikings eased all concerns with a 52-12 rout. Watch football games on NFHS Network
