Penn State had the odds stacked against it Saturday.

After firing James Franklin, players and coaches battled through an emotional week to prepare for Saturday’s game. To make matters worse, the Nittany Lions had to go on the road to Iowa’s Kinnick Stadium — a notoriously difficult environment — for a night kickoff. Redshirt freshman quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer also had to make his first career start with Drew Allar sustaining a season-ending ankle injury.
