ALLENDALE – Macomb Dakota and the rest of the pack could not dethrone defending state champion Northville. But the Cougars did chase down a little history of their own.

While top-ranked Northville put together a two-day score of 643 (322-321) to win its second straight Division 1 state title, Dakota became the very first Macomb County school to ever finish in the top two at either the Class A or Division 1 state finals dating back to the start of the tournament in the mid-1970s.

The Cougars grabbed the runner-up trophy Friday-Saturday (Oct. 17-18) at The Meadows Golf Course on the campus of Grand Valley State University, putting together their two-day total of 672 (333-339).
