The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York this week debuted its first major exhibit on ancient Egypt in more than a decade. Titled “Divine Egypt" the displays explore more than 3,000 years and involved over 1,500 gods. The exhibit features 200 works from The Met's collection and international lenders, focusing on how ancient Egyptians interacted with their deities. Visitors will explore the imagery associated with principal gods—including the falcon-headed Horus, the great creator-god Ra, and powerful goddesses such as Hathor and Maat.
