LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

Thousands of demonstrators filled the Belvedere and spilled across more than three square blocks of downtown Saturday for a "No Kings Day" rally, one of several held across the city. The event remained peaceful throughout.

Many attendees said the turnout exceeded expectations.

"Overwhelming. I’m glad that all of us got together and united for this. I couldn’t have been happier for us," said Todd, one protester.

Protesters voiced concerns about President Donald Trump and his policies, gathering in the wake of the federal government shutdown and the deployment of National Guard troops into cities.

Among those in the crowd was Maddie Kramer, who said she came to use her voice for the younger generations.
