COLUMBUS, Ga (WRBL) – There was never a doubt that Calvary's softball team was the favorite to win the state title in the GIAA 4A state tournament over the weekend.
The Knights blazed through the bracket with dominant wins over Stratford Academy, Tattnall Square, and First Presbyterian Day to punch their ticket to the championship series.
Awaiting them in the finals was Strong Rock Christian, the tournament’s No. 2 seed. It was a classic No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown. With Calvary undefeated heading into the weekend, Strong Rock would need to beat them twice to claim the title.
Game One: Strong Rock Strikes First
In the opener, Calvary came out swinging. Upperclassman Kendall Gumm drove in the first run and later scored the second, giving the Knights an early cushion. But Strong Rock respon
