Residents in parts of Australia's east coast are expected to swelter this week with several states on track to experience record-high October temperatures.

New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Queensland and South Australia could break heat record as temperatures remain on track to reach the mid-40s, according to Weatherzone .

The predicted conditions come off the back of a week of heat in Western Australia's north-west, which is spreading across the country.

There is a chance that South Australia's previous October heat record of 45.4 degrees at Oodnadatta could be broken, with temperatures of 46 degrees expected on Monday.

Monday is expected to be the hottest day for Queensland's far south-west with temperatures tipped to reach 45 degrees.
