Dimapur police have urged residents to celebrate upcoming festivals in an eco-friendly and responsible manner, reminding the public of restrictions on the use of firecrackers.

In a notice issued on Friday, commissioner of police Aotula T Imchen stated that firecrackers would be permitted only between 8 pm and 10 pm on Diwali and similar festivals. On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, the permitted time is from 11.55 pm to 12.30 am.

Only reduced emission or green crackers approved by the Petroleum and Explosive Safety Organisation (PESO) are allowed to be used and sold, and only through licensed traders.
