Hyderabad, Oct 19: In a major pre-Diwali drive, Telangana’s Food Safety teams conducted statewide inspections of sweet manufacturing units and retail outlets, uncovering widespread hygiene lapses and food adulteration across all 33 districts.
The crackdown revealed the persistent use of banned synthetic colours in milk-based sweets like jalebi, laddus, and khoya items, adulterated ghee, reused cooking oil, and non-food-grade silver foil. Out of 95 units inspected, several were found violating critical food safety norms.
Retail inspections also exposed unlabelled and expired products. Authorities seized over 60 kg of sweets, 40 kg of bread, and other adulterated items. Contaminated sweets were discarded on-site, and improvement notices were issued fo
