Oregon State’s Robb Akey is off to a good start, although for a half Saturday night Beaver fans were left scratching their collective heads.

OSU rallied during the second half with five touchdowns to beat Lafayette 45-13 in Reser Stadium, giving Akey and the Beavers their first win of the 2025 season.

Akey, named interim coach Sunday after Trent Bray was fired seven games into his second year as Oregon State head coach, made a bold call early in the third quarter that paid off handsomely. Benching starting quarterback Maalik Murphy after the first series of the second half, OSU (1-7) got the spark it needed from backup Gabarri Johnson. The redshirt sophomore ran 52 yards to set up the go-ahead score, then followed with a 20-yard touchdown run.
