FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KBTX) - When Texas A&M’s coaching staff sent the offense back on the field to attempt its third fourth-down conversion of Saturday’s offensive shootout against Arkansas, wide receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman knew his place.

At that moment, it certainly wasn’t on the field.

“It was a whole bunch of big guys,” he said with a grin. “I ain’t in on that one.”

The Aggies have established an old-school, ground-and-pound mindset on fourth down, using a formation from a bygone era. Saturday, the fourth-ranked Aggies needed needed that last-effort push by running back EJ Smith on the most consequential downs to secure a 45-42 win over the Razorbacks.
