CANTON, New York (WWNY) - The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for St. Lawrence County for Sunday afternoon between 1 and 6pm.

The alert says if any fires were to start, the weather and fuel conditions could cause them to quickly get out of control and be difficult to contain.

The NWS says in the St. Lawrence Valley, which includes portions of St. Lawrence and Franklin Counties, winds will be 15-25 miles per hour with gusts as high as 40 mph Sunday afternoon.

Couple that with low humidity and warm temperatures, and the conditions are worrisome when it comes to fires.

St. Lawrence County spent much of the summer under a county-issued burn ban because of dry conditions. It was lifted in September.
