Three labor unions are suing the Trump administration over a social media surveillance program that allegedly monitored visa holders and revoked their visas based on protected speech the administration disliked. The lawsuit claims that the program infringes on First Amendment rights of those legally in the United States.

"Even when you disagree with the speech, we have to defend that right," Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers and one of the suing unions, said. "That is foundational to having a voice and democracy in the community."

But the administration argues that visa holders do not have the same constitutional rights as U.S. citizens and do not have the right to hold a visa.
