In honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, BC Cancer hopes to save lives with a reminder that screening appointments are available in multiple Vancouver Island locations.
As one of the most common cancers found in B.C., breast cancer affects 3,500 new people each year. Regular screening mammograms can detect it early, often before it's spread, says BC Cancer.
“More people in B.C. are being diagnosed with breast cancer, but fewer are dying from the disease. This is in large part due to early detection and treatment," said Rableen Nagra, director of breast and lung screening operations at BC Cancer.
Screening mammograms are free and available to most women, and many two-spirit, trans and gender-diverse individuals, 40 years and older, with no symptoms.
Eligible individuals ages 40 to 74
