The Houston Rockets and Kevin Durant are reportedly finalizing a contract extension, according to a breaking report from ESPN’s Shams Charania.
“Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant has agreed to a two-year, $90 million contract extension with the franchise, his business partner and Boardroom CEO Rich Kleiman tells ESPN,” Sharania wrote on Sunday morning. “The new deal includes a player option in 2027-28.”
Durant, who turned 37 at the end of September, took less money than he was eligible for in an extension, according to Spotrac’s Keith Smith .
The player option for KD in 2027-28 is an important detail for the Rockets, as they will be due to pay Amen Thompson (presumably, a max deal) around that time. However, Smith noted that Durant’s extension allows flexibility for that to happen
