RUTLAND TOWN, Vt. (WCAX) - Rutland Town is considering expanding its sidewalk system for northern residents through a shared use path that would include bike lanes and pedestrian walkways.

The proposed path would continue from the city border on the west side of Route 7 and extend to Post Road in the town, including a crosswalk across the state highway.

The town received a state grant to help pay for the project. Officials say it could create a more walkable and bikeable area for residents to access the city and provide easier access to Rutland Town facilities.

“Then we realized there was a gap between where the city sidewalk system ended and where the towns picked up along Post Road and we thought it makes a lot of sense for residents of both communities to be able to use the sidewalk
