BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department are reminding families to keep safety in mind when heading out to trick-or-treat this Halloween.

Police said parents should make sure kids stay in a group. Other safety precautions you can take include checking your child’s candy, having glow sticks and flashlights, and considering face paint instead of masks.

“The mask sometimes impairs the children’s vision, and it makes it hard for them to see stumps in the sidewalk and things like that,” said Cpl. Saundra Watts with the Baton Rouge Police Department.

For people who are choosing to pass out candy, police encourage you to have your driveways clear and to have your lights on. Families are also urged to avoid any houses that don’t have lights on.
