COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. — The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility was put on lockdown Friday night after a fire at the facility.
In a news release, Sheriff Mark Dannels said a malfunctioning door motor at one of the loading areas in the facility caused the fire.
"The incident was quickly identified by staff as an electric door motor that caused a significant amount of toxic smoke to fill the loading area and hallway toward the kitchen," the news release said.
Crews with the Bisbee Fire Department worked to contain the fire while jail staff worked to ensure the safety of all inmates and personnel.
