The parent company of telcos Dodo and iPrimus has confirmed a hack on its network.

Vocus, Australia’s fourth largest internet provider, confirmed about 1600 home internet and mobile customers had been affected by the hack starting on Friday night.

The company was first alerted to the attack after noticing “suspicious activity” in their email system, shutting it down in a bid to limit the damage.

“Our initial investigation has revealed unauthorised access to approximately 1600 email accounts, leading to unauthorised SIM swaps on 34 Dodo Mobile accounts,” a spokesperson said.

“We have worked with impacted customers to reverse these SIM swaps and we continue to monitor this situation.”

Email services remained suspended on Saturday as Vocus teams worked on resolving the issue.
