GREENSBORO, N.C. — Two Greensboro City Council candidates are speaking out after their campaign signs and other candidates were defaced, one with the word “racist.”
District 4 candidate Nicky Smith said he received several calls from residents last week alerting him that his signs had been vandalized. He said the incidents were not isolated, as signs belonging to multiple candidates were also damaged or destroyed overnight.
“Political violence and intimidation have no place in Greensboro,” Smith said in a statement to WFMY News 2. “These cowardly attacks only deepen the divisions in our community and discourage good people from serving.”
Smith said he was “disgusted” by the language used and rejected what he described as false accusations about him and his campaign.
