DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. - The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting involving the Desoto County Sheriff’s Office.

According to MBI, the shooting happened at a home on Bankston Road in Nesbit.

Deputies responded to a noise complaint at the home. The DeSoto County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) said deputies arrived to a large crowd of teenagers. As deputies dispersed the crowd, they were notified of someone shooting, DCSO said.

MBI said deputies found the person fleeing in a wooded area. When the person came out, they displayed the weapon towards deputies.

According to MBI, deputies fired their weapons, and the person died from their injuries.

DCSO identified the person as Rylee James Westmoreland.

No deputies were injured, MBI said.
