Thieves pulled off a daring heist at the Louvre Sunday morning, French officials said.

They forced a window, smashed display cases, and fled with jewels of "inestimable value," according to France's interior minister.

The museum ushered visitors out and closed for the day.

The Louvre was burglarized Sunday morning less than a half hour after doors opened, French officials said.
