ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - An unhouse man is recovering after he was shot in southwest Atlanta early Sunday morning, according to police.

The shooting happened along the 300 block of McDaniels Street just after 4 a.m. Officers found the 62-year-old victim suffering from gunshot wounds to his left side.

The man was alert, conscious and breathing, when he was taken to Grady Hospital, according to police.

During its investigation, police believe the victim may have been sleeping outside when he heard gunshots and would soon be hit by gunfire.

Police told Atlanta News First that a friend of the man called 9-1-1 after the victim complained about being shot.
