After declining to purchase a former bank to house local law enforcement , Ocean City is expected to instead demolish its outdated police headquarters and construct a new facility for the department, officials said.
Mayor Jay Gillian earlier this month said city officials will proceed with forming a plan to construct a new police headquarters, using some or all of the $30 million that was set aside to refurbish the current building, a former schoolhouse on Central Avenue.
City officials have spent about 30 years exploring how to address the aging building, Gillian said.
