After asking Wollongong City Council for months to do something about the tree leaning towards his house, on Wednesday, Mathew Dargham watched as contractors wielding chain saws and other equipment took it down piece by piece.

During the dissection, a look inside the tree made it clear just how bad the termite infestation was. It was so bad that Mr Dargham said the work crew was surprised the council hadn't acted sooner.
