In a first period where so much went so right, something went dreadfully wrong.

Vancouver Canucks centre Filip Chytil, who was having an outstanding start against the Washington Capitals on Sunday, was dropped by a heavy, blindside hit from Tom Wilson after passing the puck on a neutral-zone rush. Chytil, who has a history of concussions, dropped to the ice, slowly got up and had to be helped off the ice for further evaluation.

No penalty was called on the play in which Wilson’s shoulder appeared to catch Chytil in the chest, but the whiplash affect of the blow can also cause a concussion.

Chytil did not return to the game and Jonathan Lekkerimaki was also absent to start the second period.
