The next executive director of Sarnia’s Inn of the Good Shepherd grew up in the town in Scotland where poet Robert Burns is buried, went to university in Glasgow, worked there and in Edinburgh, married a Canadian girl a decade or so ago and moved with her to Brampton in 2024.

Jack Christine said the couple happened to take a road trip to Sarnia after arriving, attracted by the city’s historic connections to his homeland. Many of its early European settlers were from Scotland, including stonemason Alexander Mackenzie who served as Canada’s second prime minister in the 1870s.

“It’s a beautiful city,” Christine said. “We went for a lovely walk along the riverfront and went for some good food at Greens,” a cafe downtown, he said.
