The Houston Rockets made a major move this offseason by acquiring Kevin Durant in a blockbuster trade involving seven teams. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania’s recent reports, Durant has agreed to a two-year contract extension worth $90 million with the franchise. This new deal includes a player option for the 2027-28 season.

Charania noted that Durant was eligible for a maximum extension of $120 million, but he recognized that by choosing the Rockets as his trade destination, he would be sacrificing around $30 million.

This decision enables both Durant and the team to collaborate in the long term, while providing the franchise with flexibility to build the roster. Recent reports indicate that Durant’s massive pay cut in the Rockets contract could secure their two rising stars.
