The Billy Napier era with Florida football has ended.
Napier was fired by athletic director Scott Stricklin and the University Athletic Association Sunday afternoon, Oct. 19, after three and change years at the helm.
He arrived in Gainesville in November 2021 from Louisiana-Lafayette. Napier entered with high expectations after he turned the Ragin’ Cajuns into one of the top Group of Five programs in the country, capped off by a 12-1 record in 2021. The Gators were coming off a 6-7 season in Dan Mullen’s final year.
Promising wins in his first two seasons failed to materialize into long-term success as Napier led Florida to three straight losing seasons for the first time since 1948.
