One hundred and fifty-five bank branches and 333 ATMs were closed last financial year, in a blow to regional Australians who, in some instances, had to drive more than an hour for access to cash.

Australia has now lost 1,564 bank branches since 2020 or 33 per cent of all branches in that time, as well as the closure of 4,478 bank ATMs since 2020, a loss of 47 per cent.
