On this week's Close Up , early voting is already underway for this year's city and school elections, giving Iowans a head start before Election Day — Nov. 4.

Voter turnout is typically lower for local elections like this one, but Polk County Auditor Jamie Fitzgerald says voters should be paying attention since the choices they make will shape the direction of their communities for years to come.

Voters will also see public measures on ballots, like Des Moines' Reimagining Education plan. Officials say the $265 million bond issue, if passed, would cover improvements to the career and technical curriculum, updates to school buildings and expanded access to preschool.
