Two multi-sport athletes were rewarded with player of the game accolades for their all-around athleticism when the Niagara College Patricia D. Laing Girls Hoops Classic wrapped up Saturday night in Welland.
Ava DeChellis, whose No. 1 sport is soccer, was selected as Notre Dame’s top player in the championship final — and the tournament’s most valuable player — after the host Fighting Irish came back to defeat the Sir Winston Churchill Bulldogs 54-27 for the gold medal.
Fellow Grade 12 student Lexi Snider, a volleyball player when she’s not competing in hoops, was the standout for the Lakeshore Catholic Gators in their 63-39 victory over the Saint Francis in the B final that tipped off the championship doubleheader at Dillon Hall.
