October 19, 1974 - The final portion of the Nebraska Interstate Highway 80 was formally completed and dedicated on Oct. 19, 1974.

I-80 was a 455.3 mile long roadway linking eastern and western Nebraska.

Nebraska was the first state in the nation to complete its interstate highway system and was the biggest single public works project undertaken in the state.

It took 19 years to complete.
