One of two newcomers will fill the Fayetteville City Council District 8 seat now held by Courtney Banks-McLaughlin, who ran unsuccessfully for mayor.
Shaun McMillan, a retired Army officer known for his community activism, will face entrepreneur Rodney E. Garvin in the Nov. 4 general election after the two were the top vote-getters in the Oct. 7 primary election . McMillan had 73.5% of the vote to Garvin's 20.31%, followed by Mahmoud A. (Travis) Hamed, who received 4.1% of the vote, and Robbie Poole, who received 2.09% of the vote.
