Sunday marked a final “cheers” to Chicago native and comedy star George Wendt.
Dozens of people gathered in Beverly, where the actor and comedian grew up, as a stretch of South Bell Avenue became "Honorary George Wendt Way."
Lifelong friends, family members, schoolmates and neighbors were among those reconvened on the block where Wendt's former home still stands.
All showed up to celebrate his life and his legacy.
"He had great humility, but he deserved to be loved because he was a wonderful person," said Bernadette Birkett, Wendt's wife. "He was just like so generous and so kind and really so funny."
The comedian died in May at the age of 76.
