A quick but powerful storm is expected to sweep through the New York City area overnight, just in time to mess with Monday’s morning commute, officials said.
The National Weather Service said to expect heavy rain, strong gusts and possibly isolated thunderstorms between late Sunday and around 11 a.m. Monday. New York City Emergency Management warned that up to an inch of rain could fall, with wind gusts topping 45 mph, especially near the waterfront and in parts of southern Queens.
Minor flooding is possible in low-lying areas, including Jamaica Bay, around the morning high tide, officials said.
Officials also recommended securing outdoor items, clearing clogged drains and using public transit if possible.
