Katie Long padded her running reputation with a dominant victory at the IMT Des Moines Marathon

Forgive Central Iowa runners if they don't know the name Katie Long. The dentist has lived in Ankeny for only a year after joining Dental Connections in Des Moines.

Her running resume is stout, however, and she padded that reputation with a dominant victory at the IMT Des Moines Marathon on Sunday, Oct. 19.

Long, 28, covered the 26.2-mile course that started and ended on Court Avenue in 2 hours, 43 minutes, 49 seconds to top former Drake University and Newton High School runner Casey McDermott by 2:16.

"I haven't met too many runners," Long said. "I run after work and we eat dinner at 8. I always do better in the fall. I was just a few minutes off my PR (personal record)."
