More than 300 people showed up outside Rome City Hall as part of the nationwide “No Kings” protests that included gatherings in nearby Summerville, Calhoun, Cartersville, Hiram and Dalton.
The Rome/Floyd Chapter of Indivisible had been expecting a turnout of about 100 supporters to “peacefully and joyfully protest against tyranny in our government,” according to one of the organizers, Susan Howard.
Between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, attendees — some in costume — waved signs, chanted slogans, sang songs and cheered loudly whenever passing motorists honked their horns in support.
In neighboring Summerville, more than 50 people did the same for two hours in front of the Chattooga County Courthouse.
