ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Thousands of runners took to the 42nd Duke City Marathon Sunday morning in a brand new route, breaking the record for the highest number of registered runners. Since 1984, runners have made their way to Albuquerque to either qualify for the Boston Marathon, train for the Olympics, or have fun.

Some by car, and some by plane. One of them has been a frequent flyer, running every year of the event.

Cecelia Niemczyk has run many marathons, such as the Boston Marathon, the Los Angeles Marathon, and every Duke City Marathon. She said the first year it was only a marathon; since then, there have been many other distances added, such as a half-marathon, 10K, 5K, and a relay.
