With extremely high poverty numbers from the U.S. census report, Detroit is entering uncharted waters after Mayor Mike Duggan leaves.

That means the city needs a confident, knowledgeable, compassionate leader to ensure the economic needs of the majority of the people are addressed.

Yet, Mary Sheffield, president of the Detroit City Council and current front-runner in the race to become mayor, whom Duggan has endorsed, did little to assure Detroiters that she has what it takes to create a new era of socioeconomic transformation that would confront economic inequality in the city.
