The Riverside County Local Agency Formation Commission met Thursday, Oct. 16, to provide updates on the unstable situation regarding Palo Verde Hospital in Blythe.

Though not much was shared, officials discussed how stakeholder meetings have been progressing, provided an update on the hospital's financial situation and outlined the next steps.

Palo Verde is a 51-bed hospital — the only hospital located in far eastern Riverside County — that, since May 24, has suspended inpatient admissions and surgeries, and has only offered emergency and clinic services. Patients needing the suspended services have had to travel long distances — often around 100 miles — to reach other hospitals, including those in the Coachella Valley.
