INGLEWOOD, Calif. — The Colts placed veteran cornerback Charvarius Ward on injured reserve this weekend because Ward suffered two concussions in a short time frame, Indianapolis head coach Shane Steichen indicated after Sunday’s 38-24 win over the Chargers.

Under the NFL’s normal concussion protocol, Ward would have to pass five steps before returning to play — symptom-limited activity, aerobic exercise, football-specific exercise, non-contact practice and full football activity.
