1 What does your election as a Fellow of the American Society of Genealogists mean to you personally and professionally?
Beatty: This is a great honor for me. Fellows are recognized for their scholarship, not for their service in societies.
I have always taken an interest in my professional written work. I became officially credentialed as a certified genealogist in 2014. Since that time, I have been writing articles for professional genealogical journals. Some of my work has involved tracing families in 16th century England, the time of Henry VIII, and reading the difficult writing in original documents. Last year, I wrote a book on a Virginia family going back to the late 17th century.
The election is a great affirmation for me.
