A Federal Court defamation case alleging Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price "trampled" on the reputation of the chief executive of an Aboriginal land council when she authorised the publication of a press release to more than 1,000 journalists has begun in Darwin.

Central Land Council (CLC) chief executive Lesley Turner is suing Senator Price over allegations she published a press release in July 2024 which falsely suggested Mr Turner had been subjected to a no-confidence motion and no longer had the support of the majority of council members.

Court documents outlining Mr Turner's claim state the senator's release implied Mr Turner had "behaved so unprofessionally that it warranted his dismissal" and was "unfit to continue to occupy the role of CEO".
