More than $2600 in counterfeit notes have been given to businesses across the Hunter Valley.
On Monday, October 20, police warned members of the public to be alert after counterfeit cash was reported.
Officers were told counterfeit $50 and $100 notes were handed to businesses in Cessnock, Kurri Kurri, Muswellbrook, Scone, Singleton, Blandford, Cliftleigh, Glendon, Merriwa and Middle Falbrook between May and October 2025.
Police seized the notes, which totalled more than $2600 in counterfeit cash, and have begun an investigation.
In a statement, the NSW police said there were several ways to spot a fake note.
People could feel the note as a genuine one is printed on special plastic polymer and is difficult to tear or check for words that mark the note as fake, such as "prop" or "specim
