An initiative reversing the idea of a traditional advent calendar is on track to donate $70,000 worth of food to Maitland people in need.

Last week there were so many boxes to be taken to Maitland Region Community Support, who will distribute the boxes, that the army stepped in and lent a hand with delivery.

The Maitland reverse advent calendar drive is about giving items back for Christmas rather than receiving, as you would with a traditional advent calendar.

Round one of the drive finished on Wednesday, October 17 with 125 boxes delivered from organiser Michelle Harvey's garage to Maitland Region Community Support by the Army reserves unit the 5 th Combat Service Support Battalion and their trucks.
